TOP 10 • TIPS FOR MODELS
Here are a few tips for looking your best at our photography session. Whether you’re a professional model or shooting for the first time, I hope you’ll find this list useful. These TOP 10 TIPS for MODELS are entirely subjective and based on my personal experience as a fine arts photographer.
In some cases, the first hour tends to be the most awkward and our first threshold to overcome. Images dramatically improve as you become more relaxed and find your confidence. If I manage to gain your trust and we’re lucky to establish an emotional connection, then your photos will be fantastic. 💘
Message me if you have any questions and I’ll do my best to respond as quickly as possible.
Confidence
1. Find Your
Inner Confidence
- Photos reveal your inner soul.
- Listen to feedback and see how beautiful you are in camera previews.
- Give yourself to the camera.
Trust
2. Everything Starts
With Trust
- Trust Is Certainly Earned. Easier said than done!
- This responsibility mainly lies with me as your photographer. The more you can trust me to make you beautiful the better your photos will be.
Relax
3. Immerse Yourself
In the Experience
- Enjoy Yourself & Have Fun!
- Your photos reveal your inner emotions, so bring positive energy.
- The more you’re calm, the more you’ll be able to express your inner joy.
Lips
4. Serious
Is Seductive
- Pouty lips evokes a seductive mood.
- A slightly relaxed jaw is more provocative. (.i.e., opening your mouth where you can see the upper teeth)
- No big smiles - it distracts from the pose and turns the image into a holiday pic.
Eyes
5. Gateway
To Your Soul
- Focus deep Into the back of the lens.
- Flirt with the camera.
- Smile with your eyes, not your lips.
- Looking down is alluring.
- Make sure to focus on something specific (if you stare into space, then it looks awkward).
- [This is one of personal taste] Best to minimize looking up because it makes the viewer wonder what bird or plane you're looking at.
Twist
6. Contorting
Is Energetic
- Twisting your body bring drama and emotion to your photos.
- [This is one of personal taste] 'Vogue' poses are not natural and a bit out of fashion.
Hips
7. Hips Out
Shoulders Back
- An arched back brings out your natural curves.
- The human eye is naturally drawn to outlines.
- Tight stomach slims the waistline.
Legs
8. Crossed Standing
Spread Sitting
- Crossed Legs when standing or walking accentuates the hips and thins the legs.
- Spreading legs when sitting or crouching is commanding.
Toes
9. Tippy Toes
Pointed Toes
- Long before photography was invented, performers discovered that long legs are alluring.
Slow•Mo
10. Slow
Movements
- Moving slowly maximizes the chances of sharper photos - especially in a studio environment where lighting is not as strong.
