֍ 51 ֍ Everyone’s an ₳$$Ḧ●Ɫ€!

We’re conditioned from a young age to believe we’re the center of the universe. Ego is formulated as a light bulb without mirrors, and it leads to teaching children that an attack from a rival requires revenge. Books and movies perpetuate this narrative. It’s a mantra where winning prevails over morality. This creates a society where sociopathy monopolizes over empathy.

When I was eight years old, my mom told me, “A real man admits when he’s wrong”. I realized at that moment that admitting guilt requires strength. I’ve rarely witnessed this in a society fraught with insecurity. The repercussions of admitting guilt require too much self-reflection. 

If every enemy perpetrates evil, and every victim is someone’s enemy, it’s a foregone conclusion that every victim is an asshole. When opposing parties inflict atrocities on each other, this often leads to retribution. Most people are incapable of admitting their barbarism, convinced they’re right and everyone is wrong. This has created a society with zero accountability. People are incapable of understanding the feedback loop of actions to consequences. It plays out at every layer of society:

• Countries see their enemies as evil with little to no recognition of the truth. Instigating war turns them into assholes.
• Governments are silent to the atrocities of their ancestors because an apology requires reparations. Avoiding liability turns them into assholes.
• World leaders deciding on the lesser of two evils, makes them assholes.
• Gangs inflict violence on their rivals by justifying atrocities as revenge. It perpetuates an endless cycle of hate and revenge. They’re collective identity turns members into assholes.
• A medical practitioner avoiding litigation by lying to their patient about their mistakes, creates an asshole.
• “Neighbors from hell” are both assholes.
• A partner blaming their spouse without accepting any accountability is an asshole.
• Sociopaths lack compassion, giving them license to perpetrate evil without shame or sorrow. This is the essence of an asshole.
• Narcissists are assholes under the guise of endlessly being the victim.
• Journalists love to root for the underdog, but as soon as the underdog is successful, the tabloids can’t wait to kick them off the mountain. Once public sentiment turns negative, the media become assholes.
• Social media fuels assholism on a massive scale. Adding fuel to fires helps to increase engagement with a cascading effect of polarizing society. It’s a form of socialized manipulation. George Orwell’s “1984” expected this behavior from governments. Private enterprises are now the puppet masters.
• The industry mantra ‘Deny, Defend, and Depose’ has turned insurance companies into the assholes of capitalism.
• Liars, cheaters, thieves, scammers, and bullies are all assholes! That’s a given.
• The worst are psychopaths. They don’t give a fuck about anybody but themselves. Born without empathy, their evil is devoid of remorse. Close behind are malignant narcissists who lack empathy but possess a complex pathology of control and dominance over their victims. If you encounter these assholes, run in the opposite direction and don’t look back!

I used to ask myself, “Do assholes know they’re assholes?” In a majority of cases, people are incapable of self-reflection. If everyone lied, cheated, and stole without regret, could we survive? Such traits would be inherited and spiral society into excruciating toxicity. The phrase, “It’s Business, not personal!” was certainly phrased by a sociopath. Assholes grow countries and companies, but in the end, their primal instincts are destructive. If no one cared for others, the world would eventually kill itself into oblivion. Some may argue that this has already begun.

In contrast, compassion is constructive and nourishes the soul. Empathy is central to a family’s emotional stability. If empaths ran the world, there’d be no war. Wealth would be evenly distributed. Poverty would be eliminated because greed, theft, and scammers wouldn’t exist. The world would turn into a single collective because everyone would share. There’d be no competition because the concept of opponents or enemies wouldn’t be in the dictionary. The world would become a massive commune – yes, I’ll say it… communist. In reality, history has taught us that greed and sociopathy destroyed any promise of a Marxist utopia. Communism was a proven failure because a select few sociopaths took power and exploited everyone.

Truth be told: The world wouldn’t survive if everyone was an empath. There needs to be a yin-yang balance of empaths and sociopaths. Nietzsche’s herd society needs to fight for survival. That’s what makes them productive. An injection of sociopathy gives the excuse to get off their ass and fight. This is the nature of progress. Empaths balance this animal instinct with an injection of humanity.

Why does any of this matter? Your enemy may say, “I’m an asshole! Whatcha gonna do about it?” Does admitting one’s character lead to redemption? Survival is not about relegating enemies to the other side of the fence. It’s about realizing that evil and good perpetually live in the same space. Who is evil and who is good when both sides are just reflections?

I’m not justifying sociopathy in our society, but I feel that the yin-yang balance is skewed in favor of assholes. Rather than destroying our opponents, why not opt for being a better version of ourselves? Instead of being mean because you’re hiding insecurity, allow yourself to be vulnerable and kind. Admit mistakes instead of sweeping them under the carpet. Then give this gift to your offspring. Fueling confidence in children will make the world a better place. Don’t be an asshole.
