Have you ever tried to concentrate on the precise moment when you fall asleep? The transition from the conscious to the subconscious? I’ve never succeeded, and I’m not sure if it’s possible. It’s my ongoing experiment to understand the mystery of sleep. Every attempt perpetually keeps me awake. I concluded that the mind doesn’t allow us to know what’s happening at that moment. I call it The Flip.
I describe The Flip as I’m standing at one end of a room, which is an abstraction of my consciousness. While looking into the room, I’m not allowed to witness slipping into my subconscious. My brain will only allow me to sleep if I’m distracted. For a brief moment, I’m required to focus on something else other than the room. Some use the tried and true method of counting sheep. My approach is to plan my next day’s activities. Once I’ve diverted my attention – as if to turn and look at the wall – the floor will flip like a revolving door. I then fall into my subconscious.
My brain will only allow me to sleep if I’m distracted. For a brief moment, I’m required to focus on something else other than the room.
The Flip doesn’t happen if I have a rush of dopamine or adrenaline. If I’m preoccupied with stress, then these emotions stiffen the mechanics of the floor, and it won’t flip. Consuming alcohol also prevents The Flip because my mind is preoccupied with poison, which temporarily damages the floor’s mechanics.
Interestingly, waking up doesn’t transition in reverse. Consciousness washes over the subconscious like rain, and I’m back in the real world again.

Dusil Photography captures exquisite moments with models who dare to be vulnerable and enter the world of sensuality. I’ve been blessed with the freedom to explore their deepest emotions. Whether it’s alluring curves or a seductive gaze, each photograph tells her story. My portfolio reflects a seamless fusion of feminine beauty and compassion.
