Men are simple creatures. Most only need three things in a partnership: respect, peace, and intimacy. Unfortunately, in relationships with narcissists, none of these needs are achievable.
Narcissists show zero respect to their partners. In public, they enact a theater of dignity. Behind closed doors, partners are treated with utter contempt, constantly berating them like a twelve-year-old. Narcissists live with the illusion that their successes far exceed anything their partner is capable of. Their partner’s achievements are never good enough. Belittling is a tool used to maintain dominance and control. The narcissist’s goal in every relationship is to make their partner their ‘bitch’.
There’s no peace with a narcissist. They love conflict as an addictive drug, thriving on fights as a means to streamline their life. Conflicts are wrapped in the illusion of convincing their partner that “you need to change because it’ll improve our relationship”. But partners carry all the burden because narcissists are convinced they’re perfect. They wholeheartedly believe their partner is lucky to have them. Narcissists become increasingly toxic as relationships progress. They create conflict where none exists as a means to reinforce the ‘you’re still my bitch’ status quo.
Narcissists treat intimacy like currency. It’s granted when deserved and denied when needs aren’t met. Sex is a performance as if a film crew is recording the event. They don’t understand the true nature of love because they’re incapable of deep emotions. Sex is like food. They’ll find infidelity wherever they want and with whomever fulfills their narcissistic supply. When a partner stops treating them like a gift from god, they’ll find someone else who adores them. On business trips, they have affairs and return home with zero shame or guilt. Narcissists justify every evil as entitlement in their aristocratic existence.
